Occupational Therapy

For Adults and Children

The Occupational Therapist's role is to help clients in making the activities that occupy their day as independent, productive and energy efficient as possible. These skills and abilities may include bathing, dressing, grooming, eating, toileting, meal preparation, home management, community living skills and leisure skills. In order to achieve maximum independence in these areas, the therapist may address skills of motor coordination, organization, reasoning, problem-solving and visual perception. The therapist may also use adaptive equipment, compensatory strategies or adapt the environment in which the patient lives, works and plays. The Therapy Apartment creates a simulated home environment where our clients can practice these everyday skills.

URS’ pediatric occupational therapists address deficits hindering a patient’s progression through normal development, as well as a child’s ability to perform activities of daily living, including work, play, self-care and leisure activities. The method of intervention varies according to the patient’s age and diagnosis.
